A shared space shaped by the coming together of individual identities. The project lies at the intersection of materiality, participation, and space, exploring how collective creative processes can give rise to places of encounter, dialogue, and memory.

Developed at JamFactory with participants from different cities, the project aims to create a shared space in which the story and uniqueness of each participant remain visible. Each contribution is rooted in personal memories, while the space becomes a medium through which these individual narratives meet, respond to one another, and gradually weave a shared experience. In the context of displacement, where geographical, social, and symbolic points of reference are often disrupted, the project offers a temporary space for reflection, gathering, and collective presence. The collective work emerges through the encounter of these individual elements, shaped throughout the time spent together.

The contact with matter is an essential part of this process. Working with the hands and with locally sourced, bio- and geo-based materials creates a direct and tangible relationship with the space being built. Touching, shaping, assembling, and transforming materials allows each participant to leave a physical trace while becoming part of the transformation of the space. Matter becomes a carrier of memory, holding the gestures, time, and presence invested in the collective process. Through this physical engagement, the space gradually becomes a place of connection: a shared landscape shaped by memories and experiences. Making together thus becomes a way of creating belonging, allowing personal memories to become embedded within a collective space.

Communication itself becomes part of the creative process. In a context where participants do not necessarily share the same language, artistic creation, gestures, shared glances, and laughter gradually form a common language. This sensitive form of communication, built through making and being together, allows relationships to develop beyond words and becomes an integral part of the project. Through this encounter, the space takes shape not only as a physical structure, but also as a collective expression of the people who contribute to it.

The programme is implemented by Jam Factory Art Center as part of the international residency platform Magic Carpets and is co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
